Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer Review
If you've been entranced by the cute packaging of Milk Makeup - I'm here to save your wallet. Keep reading for the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer review, the summary/quick facts is just right below!

Quick facts:
Formulation: This product is: vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. It is considered a Sephora Green product. Silicon-free, oil-free. Does not contain: Parabens, Phthalates, Sulfates, Acetone, Aluminum Salts, Benzophenones, Butoxyethanol, Ethanolamines, Formaldehyde, Hydroquinone, Methoxyethanol, Mineral Oil, Oxybenzone, Plastic Microbeads, Styrene, Cyclic Silicones.
Potential irritants: Alcohol Denat: very debated skin-care ingredient that may cause drying, or inflammation with regular exposure. (EWG votes this product as high for Allergies & Immunotoxicity.)
Application: Plastic pump container
Scent: Very faint, light and fresh scent that quickly fades upon application
Where to buy: Sephora, Kohls or Milk Makeup website
Price: $38 USD (I purchased my mini one in a set to try out)
Main pros: This primer does the job and can be suitable for those with combo skin (may still need moisturizer for dry skin, and could lack oil control for oily skin types). It does help with skin prep before base makeup and boosts additional longevity with a decent ingredients list.
Cons: I thought this was a very basic primer overall. It didn't fill in pores, didn't control oil, it added some hydration but so would a moisturizer. If you're interested in this product then I'd suggest also trying out some of their products in a value kit first (like the one I purchased)!
Verdict: 6/10. This primer did not make it onto my all-time favourites list.

About
On the website it's noted as an award-winning, invisible makeup primer with a 94% natural gel formula that smooths skin, grips makeup up to 12 hours, and locks in hydration. This product is 94% natural, vegan, clean, cruelty-free, paraben-free, silicone-free, oil-free, fragrance-free, and gluten-free.

Immediately:

After 12 hours:
- 100% said makeup lasted longer

*In a consumer perception study of 15 people using the product in a 12-hour period.
(My thoughts on their test: it's wayyyy too few people, and they should've compared the results to just a regular moisturizer or another basic primer as well). And although the majority of their ingredients look pretty good, I still prefer products without Denatured Alcohol since that can make the skin quite sensitive.
Is Milk Hydro Grip Primer good for oily skin?
This primer will substitute the moisturizer step for oily skin types and be enough hydration for underneath base makeup. However, since this primer is not meant to control oil or mattify - be sure to powder your T zone and just expect that you'll be getting dewier throughout the day.
How to use the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer:
- Do your basic skin prep - not too thick of moisturizer or sunscreen, give it some time to dry.
- Pump 1-2 shots of the Hydro Grip primer onto the back of your hand and blend a thin layer onto clean skin.
- Wait one minute for the formula to set and absorb to activate its all-day grip hold.
- Apply your layer of foundation and or base makeup on top.
Is the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer worth it?
In short, no. I don't think this primer is worth paying full price. I am feeling like there is a better primer out there for just smoothing the skin and improving longevity. If you are interested in trying this out first, I highly recommend getting the Milk Makeup value kit from the Sephora website so you can get a better deal.
This primer didn't make my all-time favourites but when I find the best one out there, I'll update that list! So stay tuned.
