Milk Makeup Hydro Setting Spray Review
If you've been wondering about Milk Makeup - I'm here to save you time and $$! Keep reading for the Milk Makeup Hydro Setting Spray review, the summary/quick facts is just right below!

Quick facts:
Formulation: Fragrance-free & essential oil-free, alcohol-free. Formulated without Parabens, Phthalates, Sulfates, Aluminum Salts, Benzophenones, Butoxyethanol, Ethanolamines, Formaldehyde, Hydroquinone, Methoxyethanol, Mineral Oil, Oxybenzone, Plastic Microbeads, Styrene, Cyclic Silicones
Potential irritants: Isopropyl Palmitate: comedogenicity 3-4 (could be a potential irritant).
Application: Plastic manual spray bottle
Scent: Very faint, light and fresh scent that quickly fades upon application
Where to buy: Sephora, Kohls or Milk Makeup website
Price: $38 USD (I purchased my mini one in a set like this to try out)
Main pros: This setting spray does the job and definitely makes my makeup last the whole day! It's got good ingredients and is alcohol, paraben and fragrance-free which isn't seen on the market that often.
Cons: The price for this is a little high and I don't think the sprayer on this is that fine. I still prefer for MAC Fix+ for dry skin, or the Morphe setting spray has a slightly finer mist (but downside to that one is that it's in an aerosol can so it's not as eco friendly if you go through a lot of setting mists).
Verdict: 7.5/10. This setting spray did not make it onto my all-time favourites list.

What does the milk makeup hydro setting spray do?
This is noted as an alcohol-free, dual-phase makeup setting spray that locks in makeup for up to 12 hours, hydrates skin, and provides a breathable, glassy glow.
Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray passes the test*
Immediately:
- 100% said formula sets and locks in makeup
- 95% said skin looks hydrated and refreshed
After 12 hours:
- 100% said formula helps lock in makeup and lasts for 12 hours
- 90% said formula gripped makeup all day and makeup looks better and stays on better
*In a consumer perception study of 20 people using the product in a 12-hour period.
(My thoughts on their test: it's wayyyy too few people, and they should've compared the results to MAC Fix+ or a drugstore setting spray). This setting spray did help my base makeup stay on better throughout the day - but I also find it comparable to the Morphe one (and that one has a much finer mist).
Is the milk setting spray good for dry skin?
This setting spray is alcohol-free, so it will not dry out the skin! But my preference for my drier skin days is the MAC Fix+ since that also has glycerin in it to help moisturize the skin.
How to use the Milk Makeup Hydro Setting Spray:
- Use after skin prep before makeup application, or after all makeup application
- Shake the bottle before use. With eyes and mouth closed spray pump twice while holding 8-10 inches away from face for an even, fine-mist distribution onto skin. Use as a setting spray to lock in your look for up to 12 hours. Allow formula 1 minute to set makeup.
- Reapply throughout the day as desired to refresh skin and revitalize makeup.
*I've only used it after makeup application - avoiding the eye area. IMO - the spray isn't super fine so you may need to blot/dab the bigger droplets of setting spray.
Do you put setting spray on before or after moisturizer?
You could put on setting spray after moisturizer to help your base makeup last longer throughout the day! Just give your moisturizer a few minutes to set in first, apply setting spray, allow that to set, apply base makeup and reapply setting spray to sandwich it all in.
Final thoughts
In short, no. I don't think this primer is worth paying full price. I am feeling like there is a better primer out there for just smoothing the skin and improving longevity. If you are interested in trying this out first, I highly recommend getting the Milk Makeup value kit from the Sephora website so you can get a better deal.
This primer didn't make my all-time favourites but when I find the best one out there, I'll update that list! So stay tuned.
