About the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule

SKIN1004 notes that this is a soothing ampoule that helps calm and restore imbalance in the skin caused by harsh environments.

Now I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to skincare ingredients so here’s some more info about Centella Asiatica from the National Library of Medicine. “Apart from wound healing, the herb is recommended for the treatment of various skin conditions such as leprosy, lupus, varicose ulcers, eczema, psoriasis”. It’s been used for a very long time in the east, “traditionally for wound healing and the research has been increasingly supportive for these claims”.

I think for those who try this - you’ll literally be able to feel how soothing it feels on the skin if your skin’s feeling a little sensitive or right after double cleansing. I usually don’t use a toner after cleansing because even that will irritate my cheeks - just this and then a nighttime moisturizer!

How to use the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule

I usually will use this in the evenings after cleansing. I will pat in extra layers (sometimes multiple pipette-fulls) if my skin is feeling more sensitive. I will almost always use at least 1 full pipette haha.

During the day if you don’t want a super dewy look you can probably get away with a few drops since this spreads so easily.

Another option is to soak some thin cotton pads with the ampoule and apply them to your cheeks and forehead areas like a mask to soothe the skin.

As a last step, you'll need to moisturize on top of this to seal in hydration.

The finish: It’s super quick absorbing, has a great slip to it, leaves the skin with a dewy finish. Slightly slightly tacky but not sticky.

For best results, try this over the span of 1-2 weeks. I’ve noticed less random splotches of redness and just generally more glowy comfortable skin.

Is the SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule good?

YES! This ampoule is a good one for soothing stressed skin or just giving your skin a break between actives.

Centella asiatica, also known as tiger grass, also known as Gotu Kola is a medicinal plant that has been used for hundreds of years in traditional Asian medicine. Especially in dermatological conditions, to improve small wounds, scratches, burns, hypertrophic wound healing, and as an anti-inflammatory agent, particularly in eczema.

It is scientifically proven to be effective in improving treatment of burns, psoriasis and scleroderma as well. Source: US National Library of Medicine.

Is it good for acne-prone skin?

Yes it’s fine for acne-prone skin but Centella doesn't combat acne (in the way that salicylic acid might). For actually treating close comedones I usually will use a BHA for problem areas and rotate with this some nights to give my skin a break. This centella ampoule is great for soothing the skin and for hydrating!

Summing up this SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule review

If you’re new to k-beauty this is probably the first product I’d recommend you try. It beautifully encapsulates what I think korean skincare tries to do: soothe, moisturize and repair the skin barrier.

Within a week of consistent use, I saw a reduction in redness, generally stressed skin. This is a really gentle and lightweight, watery ampoule and I recommend checking it out if you’re looking for an affordable starter ampoule! 8/10.
