Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream Review
I finally bit the bullet and purchased this for the winter. And it's SAVED my wind-chapped, irritated combo skin from the cold season.
The Dewy Skin Cream is a bit on the heavier side but the texture was still very emollient and gave my skin a healthy glow. If you have normal to dry skin, you might really love this. It's making it onto my all time favourites list!
If you have normal/oily skin, you might want to check out the Tatcha Water Cream instead (review here).
Let's dive into the full review!
Quick facts:
Formulation: Mineral oil-free, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, DEA-free
Potential irritants: Myristyl Myristate has a higher comedogenicity index which could clog pores. Alcohol and fragrance is also listed in the ingredients list
Texture: A luxurious and nourishing creamy texture that smoothes over skin beautifully, doesn't feel too heavy
Packaging: The dewy cream comes in a beautiful lilac pot with a golden spatula
Price: $72 for full size (but sometimes the Tatcha site will have 15% for new email sign ups)
Where to buy: Sephora or Tatcha.com or Amazon
Scent: Natural light green tea scent
Main pros: I'm a sucker for packaging and this one is SO nice. The cream itself also leaves the skin feeling super nourished, you'll wake up in the morning and skin will still be moisturized. Their proprietary Tatcha Hadasei- 3 is also the second ingredient on their formulation, with continued use - I noticed that my complexion was more glowy, radiant and visibly less flakey (even in the winter).
Main cons: The price is steeeeep (but personally I love this cream and like it way better than the Water Cream). This cream could also be too rich for oily skin.
About
The Tatcha website notes that the cream is a rich and hydrating moisturizer that deeply hydrates the skin thanks to a special blend of Okinawa algae and hyaluronic acid.
One of the key ingredients, japanese purple rice, is rich in anthocyanin, a strong antioxidant that helps restore skin and protect against stress and pollution, helping skin look healthier and more balanced.

TATCHA.com
The key ingredient (happy to see this so high up on the list) is the "Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate".
It is also trade named Hadasei- 3, or Tatcha's "superfluid of Japan’s three essential nutrients of Green Tea, Rice, and Algae ". Green tea is a well-known anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient, rice for nourishment, and algae is claimed to help with hydration. The trio's fermentation process helps to break down the complex bio-molecules in the plants and helps to isolate the beneficial components for the skin.
According to INCIDecoder, most of the formulation is very low on the irritancy and comedogenicity scores. However, the fragrance and alcohol in the formula can be irritating for sensitive skin types.
How to use
- Cleanse, tone per usual in your nighttime routine*
- Apply a pearl-sized amount of cream with the provided spatula
- Massage onto face, neck, and décolletage in upward strokes
Is Tatcha dewy skin cream for day or night?
The Tatcha website recommends this cream for day and night. Personally, I just used it at night and love it. It's a little bit too much under makeup sometimes.
If you do end up using this in your morning routine, I'd recommend letting this sink into the skin for 5-10 minutes prior to makeup application to avoid any pilling.
Is Tatcha dewy skin cream good for sensitive skin?
This cream contains alcohol, fragrance and colorants so I wouldn't recommend this for very sensitive skin. One of the emollients in the formulation, Myristyl Myristate, has a higher comedogenicity index which could also clog pores.
If you're looking for a more affordable hydrating moisturizer that might be better for sensitive skin - check out my review on the Soon Jung 2X Barrier Intensive Cream!
Does Tatcha dewy skin cream clog pores?
I personally have not found this cream to clog my pores, however, if you have very sensitive skin or are prone to clogged pores, I would pass on this cream!
Tatcha dewy skin cream dupe
While not an exact dupe and doesn't contain Tatcha's proprietary Hadasei- 3, I've found that the Dear, Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (review here) has a similar thicker feel to the Tacha Dewy Skin Cream (but maybe a little lighter in texture). The Dear, Klairs one is geared towards more dry/combo skin as well and is great for the summer to calm irritated or slightly sunburnt skin (very soothing)!
Wrapping up this Tatcha dewy skin cream review
- This moisturizer leaves skin feeling plump and super moisturized
- Lovely hydrated and dewy but not greasy finish
- Smells and spreads like a divine butter but if you are sensitive to scents don't get it, check out my review on the Soon Jung 2X Barrier Intensive Cream instead
- Sits well under makeup during the day (but you need to wait a few minutes for it to absorb)
- Perfect as a night cream
- Best for dry, normal or combo skin
- It's expensive but very luxurious so I personally think it's worth it if you have dry skin and want to try Tatcha products!! It's making it into my all time favourites list.
Let me know down below if you end up trying it!
Cheers,
Tia
